Okay, I've been waiting to read this until I finished watching this season of Traitors! I've only seen this season and season 1, and it's so interesting comparing the two. I found that in this season there was so much more stereotyping going on (i.e. classifying each other as a Gamer, a Housewife, etc.) which really clouded the contestants' judgement. You're so right in that the stories you tell yourself can be so convincing yet so incorrect. I almost think having normies is better for limiting biases, so it will be interesting what next season is like.

P.S. I, too, am a normie who could never be a Traitor. It would give me FAR too much anxiety lol

I felt exactly the same! The stereotyping made it a hard watch, and idk if you read peoples’ comments on reddit/show recaps but it felt like that was reflected in being two distinct camps of viewers, those who love housewives/hate gamers and those who love gamers/hate housewives. So so interesting. You should watch the uk celebrity season next! They played for charity which I think changed the dynamic for the better, and it’s all comedians/actors/musicians who are properly famous there so there wasn’t a lot of ego involved. Such a fun watch

I haven't read any of the reddit comments, but that observation is spot on. It did feel divided in that way, and then there was just Tara and Johnny haha

Ooo that's awesome the UK cast played for charity! I can really see that impacting the dynamic. I have found it interesting (based on the two US seasons I've watched) how the winner wins alone because they screw everyone else over. To me, that's not winning.

Also, the ego of minor celebs is so real 😂

SAME not winning at all! I feel like the game would be so hard because it dictates lying to people you're getting to know/getting close with. I don't think I'm cut out for it lol. I think it's also hard watching people who are already wealthy try to win more money! It just feels like low stakes and they don't try as hard in the challenges because 10k isn't "worth it" to them you know?

Absolutely, that would be the hardest part for sure, which is why I'm so skeptical about Rob as a person because he made lying to people seem wayyyyy too easy! And totally agree about wealthy people competing for more money, it does not hit the same. That's why S1's finale was so devastating/shocking 🥴

I am, and always will be, faithful to the UK versions of Traitors.

Good read and good reminder that stories have power, whether in our own head, in a game, or out in the real world. I am also working my way thru The American Revolution...it's certainly not the "romantic" version of events we were taught!

I think I need to get more into the UK traitors! The UK celebrity version is what finally won me over and it was so refreshing not having any "gamers" in it. Is there a particular season you recommend starting with or are they all good?

Also so so true, it's been super jarring learning about the war more in depth! Every episode I feel depressed for a solid day afterwards, just thinking about how differently things went down to how we were taught

Your intro made me chuckle and now I need to watch this show!

Please do and then we can have traitor magic nights!!

The only thing I know of the traitors US is that Donna Kelce is in it somehow and I think that’s hilarious and good for her on capitalizing on her new fame lol respect

Maddy my thoughts exactlyyy. You should watch! It's very fun and silly, and you can start with this current season to see Donna in all her glory

Love this. And that you are reading Ceremony! Excited to hear what you think of it. Also definitely planning to watch American Revolution now

Courtney Bowers's avatar

Yes I have to thank you for recommending Ceremony! I loved it so much. The blend of the storytelling types really worked for me, and I was really rooting for Tayo to get better/reclaim his heritage so that was a very satisfying ending. What did you think of it?? Are you reading anything good now?

You'll have to let me know what you think! I'm about halfway through right now and find I can really only watch an hour at a time before I'm not absorbing as much info but it's so, so well done

Totally! Filling in those gaps with your imagination is such a natural impulse (and sometimes those instincts are correct) but it ends up being so much more rewarding to really think things through logically, I've found. Thanks so much for reading!
